ARTIST'S STATEMENT
Bob's first break in art came while serving with the Signal Corps in WWII, preparing training aids. After returning home, he attended night classes at the Dayton Art Institute. He studied privately with internationally recognized painters; Don Stone, Paul Strisik and John Pike. He was a star pupil under the late Martin Wogaman, sculpture-painter classically trained in Europe.
Exhibiting widely and belonging to numerous art organizations and societies, he has won awards and regularly displayed in several prestigious galleries. Demonstrations for the Grumbacher Company gave many Ohio artists and universities a look at his talent in watercolor. He teaches a logical approach to painting; beginning with the idea, a sketch, a layout and then completing the painting.
The beauty and rhythm of oil paint can be seen in the masterful application of the medium. Difficult for many accomplished painters, Brubaker's technique seems to flow on the canvass; a testament to a painter skilled in his craft. There is a sense of time being frozen, calmness to his scenes; as if we have all been there at that moment in time.
Brubaker's home base has always been in the rural community. Born in Union City, OH and permanent resident of Darke County have brought an appreciation for the beauty of our land and farms. A painter sensitive to local traditions; depicting farm houses, barns, and the fields that are so familiar. His landscapes are treasured by a wide following of knowledgeable collectors. Many admirers have commissioned him to paint life long treasures of special subjects.
